1.0 General Health Benefits of the Herbal Rinses

The herbal rinse recipes in this article help calm, cleanse, refresh, nourish and heal. The rinses are helpful for skin and fur issues, for example:

  3. Rooibos has approximately 50% more antioxidants than green tea. 
  4. Use as a rise, bath or paw soak.
You'll Need
  1. Rooibos tea (red bush tea) bags or loose leaf.
  2. Tea infuser if using loose leaf tea.
  3. Lemon, one fresh. 
  4. Spring, filtered or distilled water.
Preparation
  1. Place the following in a tea pot:
    • 2 rooibos tea bags, or 2 tsps of loose rooibos tea in a tea infuser.
  2. Boil a pot of water. 
  3. Pour the boiled water into the tea pot.
  4. Allow the tea to steep and cool to slightly warm or room temperature.
    • Select warm or room temperature to suit your dog, or cat's situation.
  5. Once the tea has cooled remove the tea bags or tea infuser.
  6. Squeeze the juice out of 1 fresh lemon.
  7. Add the fresh lemon juice to the cooled rooibos tea.
To Use
  1. Rinse or bath/soak your dog or cat with the rooibos and lemon tea rinse.
  2. You don't need to rinse the tea off. 
  3. Reuse as needed to soothe and nourish skin and fur.
  4. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, then brew a fresh batch as needed.

Preparation
  1. Place 1 ounce of each of the herbs below in a muslin bag or large ball infuser:
    • Calendula flowers.
    • Chamomile flowers.
    • Lavender flowers.
    • Rose petals.
    • Slippery elm bark.
    • Witch hazel.
  2. Place the filled muslin bag or tea infuser in the tea pot.
  3. Boil a pot of water. 
  4. Pour the boiled water into the tea pot.

  6. Once the tea has cooled remove the muslin bag or tea infuser.
