1.0 This Makes Your Dog and Cat Highly Vulnerable to Flea Infestations
Fleas (and other parasites) are attracted to animals that have an acidic body pH and poorly performing immune system.
1.1 Dietary Choices
1.1.1 This Diet Is A Primary Underlying Cause of Flea Infestations
.1 The Issue
The most common cause of an acidic body pH and poor immune system function (in dogs and cats) is an inappropriate diet. Fleas (and other parasites) thrive in acidic environments.
An acidic body pH weakens the immune system. In turn this results in increased vulnerability to fleas, tapeworm, system inflammation and other related vulnerabilities (e.g. pathogens, anemia, etc.).
An inappropriate diet includes highly processed pet foods and treats, for example:
- Dry pet food (kibble, biscuits) and treats.
- Canned food.
- Wet food.
- Veterinary Prescription Diets.
What makes these pet foods so damaging?

1.1.2 An Appropriate Diet
.1 Fundamental Support
A species appropriate diet supports normal body pH and a healthy immune system.
A species appropriate raw diet, or fresh and gently cooked diet is the body's first line of defence against fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, intestinal worms and other parasites.
However, not all raw diets or fresh and gently cooked diets are good diets. Raw and gently cooked and fresh food diets (commercial and homemade) may contain a variety of inappropriate components that hinder or damage the immune system and cause issues with pH levels. The same issues apply to supplements. Inappropriate components such as:
- Starchy carbohydrates.
- Toxic food additives, for example:
.2 Take Action
If your dog or cat is currently fed a raw diet or fresh and gently cooked food diet, but is prone to flea infestations I recommend you take a close look at the current raw diet and make appropriate changes.
Click on the linked bullets above to learn more about reducing your dog and cat's vulnerability naturally.
1.2 Personal Care Choices
- Conventional
- Medications.
- Vaccines.
- Conventional:
- Flea, tick preventatives and treatments.
- Heartworm preventatives and treatments.
- Intestinal wormers.
- Toxic personal care products, for example:
- Ear cleaning products
- Shampoo
- etc.
Take a look at your dog and cat's current personal care protocol and make appropriate changes.
